hacking myspace just got a little harder.

Well i wasn’t really hacking into myspace but the little springbox widget that I found enabled me to display external rss feeds in a myspace page has stopped working (thanks Psy_gen). Appears Tom has been tightening things up.
I’m not going to give up though … we where getting a lot of clicks through from people hosting the Greenpeace rss on their myspace pages.
Anyone know a good way to do it?

1 Comment Published July 12th, 2007 in Geekery Share it del.icio.us |Digg it |Furl |Netscape |reddit |StumbleUpon | ScoopitEver wondered where in the world all the people who use myspace or bebo are? Here’s the brakdown according to Alexa
- Orkut leads in the Indian subcontinent, as well as Brazil;
- Facebook is stronger, internationally, than Myspace, with surprising strongholds in the Middle East;
- hi5.com is the most international of all the social networks, leading in Peru, Colombia, Central America, and other, scattered countries such as Mongolia, Romania, and Tunisia;
- both Bebo and Skyblog follow colonial patterns, the first strong in smaller English-speaking countries such as Ireland and New Zealand, and the latter in Francophone countries;
- and Friendster, the original social network, leads all across Southeast Asia.
- Fotolog, a photo service defeated in the US by Friendster, has re-emerged as the dominant social network in Argentina and Chile.

Hacking into myspace with rss feeds
5 Comments Published April 24th, 2007 in Geekery Share it del.icio.us |Digg it |Furl |Netscape |reddit |StumbleUpon | ScoopitA little while ago i wrote a post about my efforts to provide a good easy way for people to host the Greenpeace action rss feed on their website.
The problem was that while we’ve got our “Really Simple Syndication” feeds set up, it’s not always really simple for people to use them. So with Feed2JS I’ve provided a more simple way for people to grab our feed for their website.
But then of course I got a request for some way to display it in myspace where javascript is not allowed. This is a big problem because let’s face it - a large number of people with their own websites are myspace or blogger users.
So I’ve had a scan around and came across a great little flash rss widget from http://www.thespringbox.com/ that works beautifully in myspace.
You can grab the code over at the Greenpeace site or make your own custom version
