There even appears to be a carbon credits category on TradeMe … Home > Business, farming & industry > Carbon credits
The price right now is up over $10,000 for the “Gold standard” package.
The arcane world of emissions trading crossed over to the familiar realm of Trade Me yesterday when Meridian Energy put three parcels of carbon credits up for sale on the on-line auction site.
Meridian chief executive Keith Turner said the move was intended to get people talking about their carbon footprint and how to reduce it.
Save Happy Valley selling carbon credits
0 Comments Published June 25th, 2007 in climate change, Activism Share it del.icio.us |Digg it |Furl |Netscape |reddit |StumbleUpon | ScoopitIt seems that Solid has reduced production for the year by 250,000 tonnes, in part because of the protests by The Save Happy Valley group.
And so the protest group is now selling “carbon credits” as a fund raiser.
This is great news for the climate! Solid Energy can’t catch up that lost 250,000 tonnes of production, so that’s 600,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide that have been prevented from reaching the atmosphere - the equivalent of taking 170,000 New Zealand cars off the road for a year.
