Win a solar powered backpack from the Only Planet Guide

Solar BackpackLive Earth is on this weekend and to provide something real for people to do after they’ve watched Al Gore’s pop extraveganza Greenpeace has launched the Only Planet Guide.

There’s a very cool solar backpack on offer for anyone with a mobile phone … just txt your name to 4858 to get into the draw.

Here’s the first thing in the guide…

Change your mind

The first step to doing your bit for the climate is to change your mind. There’s no single solution or magic bullet, but there is a whole range of easy, creative and innovative ways you can help. Basically, we all need to reduce our emissions. Every small step helps.

Joe maybe you mistyped your code? Try again I reckon - it worked fine for me.

Hmmm, can you sew solar panels on anything now? I’m going to sew them on to my anorak for when it’s raining… oh, wait. lol

These backpacks are very cool. I want one as well. I have featured it on my blog as I think we should all be looking for ways to generate power from the sun. Imagine recharging your gadgets while laying in the sun next to a high mountain lake. Sweet.

My sister just showed me this exact backpack last week. It’s very cool - she is charging her cell phone and Ipod through it all day long as she walks around Manhattan. The one drawback I found was that it was slightly heavy.

Wow, I just love solar powered gidgets and gadgets. Or shall I say solar powering of your gidgets and gadgets. There are so many ways to help the enviroment but solar technology has to be the best because in this day and age we have so many electronic things that need power so if you can use solar then that makes it all the better.

I was also wondering how you went about charging your gadgets. Do you just put them in the bag and they magically get charged or what? Also what about the inside of the bag like compartments and such? I know the focus is to be on the fact that its solar powered but if I want to carry it around I need to know more.

Wow! What an awesome gift!

@ Stephanie:

We assume the solar powered bag comes with a small battery back-up, from which you then plug-in your phone, ipod, laptop, whatever.

That is what makes it so cool! A truly portable solution!

I know this article is a bit old, but I’m going to feature the backpack on my site’s blog if that’s ok. We’re always looking for solar gadgets to get people interested in solar power, and when something is a bit different it helps. Thanks for the heads up.
